Recently, CATL officially signed strategic cooperation agreements with companies including Xi'an Taijin New Energy & Materials Sci-Tech Co., Ltd. (TJNE) and Shenzhen Huike New Materials Co., Ltd. The parties established a deep, long-term strategic partnership focusing on key areas including centralized procurement of copper foil equipment, joint capacity development, cost-based pricing, collaborative R&D, and green energy sharing.
This cooperation marks a complete restructuring of the copper foil supply chain:
● On the equipment front: CATL and TJNE will establish a unified management mechanism featuring overall planning, standardized technical criteria, and centralized procurement. TJNE will provide standardized, large-scale centralized delivery for new expansion projects, driving systematic cost reductions and technological iterations on the equipment sector.
● On the supply front: CATL will jointly build 400,000 tonnes of new capacity with two partners, including Shenzhen HuiKe New Materials Co. Ltd, over the next three years. Driven by a joint commitment to cost-plus pricing, fair margins, and shared risk, the partners have secured long-term volume commitments with fixed processing fees. Furthermore, CATL is empowering its partners financially via advance payments and flexible settlement terms.
This strategic agreement heralds a paradigm shift in the lithium-battery copper foil industry, transitioning from traditional transactional procurement toward a new model of collaboration and co-governance. By breaking traditional boundaries in pricing and capacity collaboration, CATL is accelerating the creation of an resilient and mutually beneficial supply chain ecosystem.
