Brunp Recycling Leads the Formulation of Battery Recycling Standards

2025-10-22

On October 17, 2025, the State Administration for Market Regulation held a press conference on the Standardization of Power Battery Recycling and Utilization. Brunp, a subsidiary of CATL, has led or participated in the formulation of over 80% of China's national standards for lithium-ion battery recycling. It has been designated as an industry benchmark by ministries and commissions, including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the State Administration for Market Regulation, effectively driving the industry's transformation from "disordered recycling" to "standardized and large-scale" development.

As the wave of power battery retirement arrives, recycling has become the "second half" of the development of the new energy vehicle industry. In the past, the industry faced problems such as non-standard operations and low recycling efficiency, with the recovery rate of nickel, cobalt, and manganese standing at approximately 98% and that of lithium at around 85%.

Xie Zaichun, Deputy Director of the Fujian Provincial Administration for Market Regulation, pointed out at the press conference that the DRT (Directional Recycling Technology) independently developed by Brunp has achieved ultra-high recovery rates of 99.6% for nickel, cobalt, and manganese, and 96.5% for lithium through processes such as intelligent disassembly, hydrometallurgy, and material restoration In 2024, Brunp processed over 120,000 tons of waste batteries and produced 17,100 tons of recycled lithium salts, effectively alleviating China's dependence on the import of nickel, cobalt, and lithium resources. This is of great significance for the recycling and utilization of strategic resources and the promotion of the orderly development of related industries.

In addition to formulating power battery recycling standards, Brunp has supported 18 national standardization technical committees across the country in conducting research on battery recycling standards, covering multiple fields such as non-ferrous metals, chemical disposal, automobiles, chemistry, and logistics.

Currently, Brunp has built a full-life-cycle closed loop of "battery production - use - recycling - recycled materials - remanufacturing". In the future, Brunp Recycling will continue to increase R&D investment, promote the green, low-carbon, and high-quality development of the industry, and contribute "circular power" to industrial transformation and upgrading and the global goal of carbon neutrality.
