CATL has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Pinglu Canal Group recently to jointly build a zero-carbon energy system for green shipping and the canal economic belt, establishing a world-class benchmark for smart, zero-carbon canals.

With a total length of 134.2 km, the Pinglu Canal is the first major canal connecting rivers and seas built since the founding of the People's Republic of China. Its completion creates the shortest and most economical sea passage for the southwestern region, reducing the shipping route to the sea by 560 km and saving 7 to 15 days of shipping time.

Following its official commissioning in September, the Pinglu Canal will fully implement navigation management for electric ships. The first batch of piloting electric ships will be equipped with CATL's marine power battery system. CATL will jointly operate the "battery bank" battery leasing service with Pinglu Canal Group to effectively reduce ship owners' ownership and operational costs.

In addition to promoting the electrification of ships, the parties plan to build wind and solar power stations, energy storage power stations, and microgrids along the canal to supply power to industrial parks, ports, shipping facilities, and battery charging and swapping stations. The partnership will also include developing an intelligent zero-carbon management system to enable quantified monitoring of carbon reduction performance across ships, industrial parks, power stations, and power grids.

In the future, CATL will continue to support the green upgrading of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, driving China's inland shipping to accelerate towards a zero-carbon future.
