Signing Ceremony of CMCC-CATL Information Energy Joint Institute

On December 20th, the signing and opening ceremony of the CMCC-CATL Information Energy Joint Institute was held in Ningde, Fujian Province. Gao Tongqing, deputy general manager of China Mobile (CMCC), and Wu Kai, chief scientist of CATL, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches.

The CMCC-CATL Information Energy Joint Institute is a result following the strategic cooperation between the two companies established in 2022. Based on the institute, the two parties will work together to create a benchmark for green cooperation between new energy and communications sectors and accelerate the low-carbon transformation of energy industry in China.

Gao Tongqing said that the institute is the most crucial platform for cooperation between the two parties. By combining CATL’s energy technology strengths with China Mobile’s information services and market advantages, scientific research results will be adapted to applications and we can achieve a seamless transition from bookshelf to goods shelf by turning theory to technology, technology to products, and products to services.

Wu Kai said that the information energy industry is just beginning to show its potential, and it is the right time to set sail with determination. Centering on carbon neutrality goals, the institute will be committed to carrying out all-scenario and full-life-cycle research on basic theories and key technologies of information energy, establishing a new ecosystem for the information energy industry, opening up a new track for energy operations, and contributing to the green development of energy industry.

According to the agreement, the CMCC-CATL Information Energy Joint Institute will be jointly operated by China Mobile Group Design Institute Co., Ltd, China Mobile Group Fujian Co., Ltd, and Ampace (a subsidiary of CATL). In the future, the institute will carry out core technology research in the fields of energy storage digitization, energy low-carbonization, and energy informatization, and be committed to making breakthroughs in digital energy technology, energy storage industry standard systems, and virtual power plant operations to create a communications-new energy integrated product and operation system, promote the energy revolution and industrial green upgrading, and contribute to the global drive towards carbon neutrality.
