Fairlea Ranch, Nicasio, CA

Fairlea Longhorn’s home ranch is located an easy 45 minute drive north of San Francisco and near the world famous Pt. Reyes National Seashore. We are situated in the heart of West Marin County's renowned rolling hills and fertile grassland. This is where we live and where our love of Texas Longhorn cattle began back in 1995. Because of the strong market in Texas for these magnificent animals, we have recently expanded our operations and now also operate a satellite ranch in Bowie, Texas (about an hour’s drive north of Dallas/Ft.Worth).

Ever since we began raising Texas Longhorns in 1995, we have worked to establish a premier herd of the best of the breed. Our motto, “Making the Most of the Best” says it all. In trying to live up to our motto, we have focused on owning and using exceptional bulls to breed to our spectacular and very long-horned cows. Our goal is to give every calf born on our property a chance to become one of the very finest the breed has to offer. In that regard, we emphasize horn growth, disposition, flashy color patterns, frame size and correctness, and strong milk production and mothering traits. If one or more of those attributes is missing, you won’t see her carrying our brand.

Up to now, most of the longest-horned examples of the breed have lived east of the Rocky Mountains. Now, serious western breeders can select from among the very best while staying much closer to home.

Fairlea Longhorn Ranch prides itself in carrying on California's 200 year tradition of raising Longhorn cattle. Our Texas Longhorn herd includes representative bloodlines of the Butler, Phillips, WR, Wright and Yates families, and they in turn, proudly carry on the famous Longhorn traits of longevity, disease resistance, heartiness, adaptablility, fertility and unfailing ability to deliver and raise a healthy calf year in and year out. Shadow’s Reflection was born April 13, 1998. He is an all black son of the great bull, The Shadow, and he sports 64” tip to tip on an 1800 lb frame. He, like Wrangler before him, is one of the gentlest giants in the breed.

Lakota Chex was born October 11, 2003. He is a son of Farlap Chex, Bob Loomis’ herd sire. Lakota had 51.25” tip to tip at 22 months. We project his ultimate horn measurement well into the mid 60”s. The traits which have made his sire so successful have been passed on to this young bull, and we are looking forward to great things as we watch his offspring develop.

For our Texas ranch, we have purchased a very exciting young bull named JP Grand Dale P. Grand Dale is a son of the famous Grand Slam bull (67”+ TTT) and is out of Delta Pia, a well known Emperor daughter whose horn length exceeds 72”. Grand Dale was born on 5/3/03 and had 55.125” TTT as a 26 month old youngster.
